This is an original 1858 hand colored lithograph of figures from the famous medieval French poem of courtly love Roman de la Rose or the Romance of the Rose. Written in two stages by Guillaume de Lorris and Jean de Meun, this illuminated manuscript dates from about 1480. (MS Harl. No. 4425).
